The CUHSO editorial team is committed to the highest ethical standards and to good practices in editing and authorship. CUHSO adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE): Publication Ethics and Ethical Violations, the Singapore Declaration on Research Integrity, and the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). These commitments are reflected in the following criteria:
Authorship and contribution policies
Authors are considered to be those who have made a significant contribution to the research process, writing, presentation, and revision of the manuscript, in accordance with the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Authors are required to indicate, in the submission letter (Letter of Commitment), the contribution or role of each author in the manuscript.
Authors are listed in the order previously agreed upon by them and must provide the following information:
- Name (as used in all scientific publications).
- E-mail address.
- Academic degrees.
- Institutional affiliation.
- ORCID iD.
It is understood that the author who submits or uploads the manuscript to the journal platform assumes the role of corresponding author and is responsible for all communication throughout the editorial process.
Plagiarism policy
Articles submitted to CUHSO must be original and unpublished, and must have the consent of all authors. For this purpose, authors are required to submit a signed submission letter committing to these criteria. The journal will not publish articles that have been previously published in another language.
The fragmentation of large studies may cause confusion among readers; therefore, authors are required to include appropriate citations when their work refers to previous publications, as failure to do so may be detected as plagiarism or may not comply with the established originality criteria. Authors must also be available to respond to requests from the editorial team and peer reviewers regarding previously published work on the same subject.
All submitted articles undergo a rigorous peer-review process and are screened using the COMPILATIO plagiarism detection software. If a manuscript does not meet the specified originality criteria, it will be declared inadmissible for publication. If an article has already been published in the journal, it will be withdrawn from the volume in which it appears.
CUHSO is committed to issuing retractions and corrections when necessary in order to ensure transparency and due process in any detected or reported case.
Authors are responsible for all material included in their work, such as tables, charts, photographs, figures, and any other content required for the publication, and declare that such material does not infringe copyright.
Handling of complaints and appeals
The complaint or appeal procedure begins with communication to the journal’s Editor via the institutional e-mail address (cuhso@uct.cl). The Editor will confirm receipt of the communication by e-mail and will assess the merits of the complaint or appeal, informing the Editorial Committee, which has a period of two weeks to issue a decision.
The Committee may resolve the complaint or appeal by closing the case or by initiating an investigation, which will be communicated to the parties through a formal report.
If an investigation is initiated, the parties will be asked to provide additional information and/or statements. Based on this information, a decision will be made, which may include rejection of the complaint, insufficient information, or confirmation of the complaint. In all cases, the decision will be communicated through an official Committee report.
When a complaint or allegation is confirmed, the decision will be communicated to the involved parties and to the affiliated institution of the respondent.
If the situation warrants it, an erratum or correction will be issued in the form of a retraction notice in a subsequent issue.
Conflict of interest policies
CUHSO establishes strict criteria to prevent conflicts of interest during the manuscript review process.
Authors must submit a fully anonymized version of the manuscript that does not allow the identification of authors, institutions, individuals, or funding sources.
Peer reviewers must have research experience and a record of scientific publications.
CUHSO operates under a double-blind peer review system, ensuring objectivity, as neither authors nor reviewers are aware of each other’s identities.
CUHSO ensures that anonymized communication between authors and reviewers adheres to appropriate academic standards regarding comments and evaluations. The criteria for determining the outcome of a manuscript evaluation are defined in the Peer Review Process section (Pre-review and Peer Review).
Policies on data exchange and reproducibility
CUHSO encourages authors to facilitate data sharing and reproducibility, provided this does not violate prior agreements regarding confidentiality or the protection of research participants’ identities. In all cases, authors should be aware that data may be requested by editors or reviewers as part of the review process.
Authors may associate a manuscript with its corresponding dataset through cross-referencing. It is recommended that this cross-reference be bidirectional: from the dataset to the article and from the article to the dataset. Authors may deposit datasets in the repository of their choice. CUHSO recommends the use of Mendeley Data.
Ethical oversight policies
The CUHSO Editorial Committee may request information from authors regarding the ethical standards applied in their research, which must comply with the principles of the Singapore Declaration on Research Integrity.
When applicable, authors must describe the ethical procedures followed in their research and, upon request from editors or reviewers, provide relevant information regarding ethical safeguards, particularly in matters involving informed consent or assent, or authorization for the use of databases.
The use of photographs in which individuals appear must be supported by appropriate authorizations and must not cause harm or detriment to the individuals depicted.
Intellectual property policy
All manuscripts published in CUHSO are the sole responsibility of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the CUHSO Editorial Committee.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is original and unpublished.
CUHSO is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which safeguards authors’ rights.
Corrections policies
CUHSO encourages scholarly discussion and debate around published manuscripts. When deemed appropriate by the Editorial Committee, responses or Letters to the Editor may be published and should be sent to cuhso@uct.cl
.
Post-publication corrections or requests for article withdrawal must be submitted to the Editorial Committee at the same e-mail address and will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures described in the section Handling of Complaints and Appeals.
Privacy and use of information policies
Names and e-mail addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for editorial purposes, including notifications of new publications or calls for submissions, and will not be made available for any other purpose, individual, or organization. CUHSO does not allow advertising or marketing on the journal’s website.
