Abstract

Caregivers for people with disabilities face numerous barriers in their daily lives. These include administrative burdens when interacting with the state to access benefits, as well as the often-invisible burden of the time commitment their caregiving role requires. The objective of this research was to analyze these administrative and invisible burdens through a qualitative approach based on interviews with caregivers of people with disabilities. Although Chile ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, committing to universal design and reasonable accommodations, current caregivers report that the disability accreditation process remains highly complex. This administrative difficulty compounds the significant personal and social costs associated with dedicating their time to care.
