Guidelines

All submission, review and publication processes are carried out through the CUHSO OJS platform (start submission). The author who submits or uploads the manuscript to the journal platform is understood to assume the role of corresponding author and is responsible for all communication throughout the editorial process.

Together with the manuscript, authors must attach a Letter of Originality, Copyright Transfer and Compliance with Ethical Standards (Letter of originality). In addition, a document attached to the letter must indicate the name and surname of each author, identifying the role or contribution performed in the development of the manuscript, in accordance with the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

 

TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS ACCEPTED

CUHSO accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • RESEARCH ARTICLES: The manuscript must include at least the following elements: 1) Title: in the original language, English and Spanish, when applicable; 2) Abstract: in the original language, English and Spanish, when applicable; 3) Keywords: in the original language, English and Spanish, when applicable; 4) Introduction: presents objectives, scope and originality of the study, and may include an expanded theoretical framework if relevant; 5) Methodology: presentation of epistemological, methodological and ethical aspects of the research; 6) Analysis or results: descriptive presentation of findings; 7) Discussion: links the analysis with current theoretical debate, considering main findings; 8) Conclusions: synthesis of results, contributions and achievement of objectives; 9) References: at least 50% of references must correspond to publications from the last five years.

Research articles present original results from completed research in the fields of social sciences and humanities. These manuscripts are subject to peer review and must have a length between 8,000 and 12,000 words.

  • REVIEW ARTICLES: The manuscript structure must include: 1) Title; 2) Abstract; 3) Keywords; 4) Introduction: objectives, scope and type of review conducted; 5) Review methodology; 6) Review results; 7) Conclusions; 8) References: a minimum of 60 references, of which at least 80% must be from the last five years.

Review articles present the results of completed research that provides an updated overview of a relevant field of study in social sciences and humanities. They are subject to peer review and must have a length between 8,000 and 12,000 words.

  • ESSAYS: The manuscript structure must include: 1) Title; 2) Abstract; 3) Keywords; 4) Introduction; 5) Discussion; 6) Conclusions; 7) References: a minimum of 25 bibliographic sources.

Original essays addressing specific topics in the social sciences and humanities from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective. These manuscripts are subject to peer review and must have a length between 8,000 and 12,000 words.

  • DOCUMENTS AND TESTIMONIES: Documents or testimonies with empirical or theoretical value for the social sciences and humanities, particularly in the Latin American context. The structure is free. These contributions are evaluated by the Editorial Committee.
  • BOOK REVIEWS: Reviews of books published within the last five years and relevant to the social sciences and humanities. The structure is free. These contributions are evaluated by the Editorial Committee and must have a length between 1,000 and 2,000 words.

Style Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to CUHSO must comply with the following style requirements:

  • Title: The title must use sentence case only and have a maximum length of 15 words. It must be presented in Spanish and English, as well as in the original language when applicable.
  • Authorship: Authors’ names must be listed in the order established by the authors. All authors must indicate institutional affiliation, e-mail address and ORCID iD.

For evaluation purposes, authors must submit a fully anonymized version of the manuscript, removing names, institutions, locations and metadata that allow identification of authorship.

  • Abstract: Maximum 250 words, written in a single paragraph without indentation. It must be presented in Spanish and English, as well as in the original language when applicable.
  • Keywords: Five keywords must be included, ordered alphabetically and separated by semicolons (;), in Spanish and English, as well as in the original language when applicable.
  • Figures, tables and illustrations: Must be submitted in original format and high resolution, in accordance with APA Style, 7th edition. Editable files may be requested during the copyediting stage.
  • Acknowledgements (if applicable): May be included at the end of the manuscript to recognize technical, operational or institutional support that does not constitute authorship.
  • Funding (if applicable): The source of funding must be indicated in a footnote associated with the article title, specifying the project name, funding institution, country and year.
  • About the authors: A brief academic biography of each author must be included (e-mail address and ORCID iD are mandatory). This section is included only in the final accepted version.
  • Conflict of interest statement: Authors must explicitly declare the existence or absence of conflicts of interest. In the absence of conflicts, the following statement must be included: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest”.
  • Author contributions: In manuscripts with more than one author, the contribution of each author must be specified according to the CRediT taxonomy.
  • Citations and references: All manuscripts must strictly follow APA Style, 7th edition.
